Hello and welcome to Dance Out Dementia: Train Your Brain with the Beat of Your Feet! My name is Maggie, and I am the creator and founder of this project. Dance out Dementia started as my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. When thinking about what I wanted my project to be, I thought about my lifelong love of dance. Tap is my favorite style and my awesome tap shoes are pictured to the left and above :). I want my project to spread my love for dance and also use it as a tool to help others. I already knew that dance had many health benefits, but when I went to work researching, I was astounded when I read that dance can reduce a person's risk of getting dementia and other chronic brain disorders by 76 percent, which is more than reading, writing, playing an instrument, walking, biking, and swimming. This fact hit home for me as some members of my family have been afflicted with dementia. Upon further research, I found that a staggering 14 million people worldwide have dementia. This number is just expected to rise in the coming decade.
I combined my love for dance with its power to reduce the risk of dementia, and Dance Out Dementia was born! Now, Dance Out Dementia offers classes that are specifically designed to reduce a person's risk of getting dementia through steps that require the brain to forge new neural pathways. It also raises awareness about the dementia crisis through educational seminars. For more information about these classes, please visit the Events page. Thank you for visiting my site and please, start to train your brain with the beat of your feet through dance!
